Re: Boris Johnson on the Burka

That more-or-less matches my thoughts. The issue of employers specifying what employees must and must not wear is very thorny particularly where women are concerned - but perhaps off topic. WRT the balaclava/burka/helmet thing, it's all about context and situation. They are all valid sometimes and n...

Re: Boris Johnson on the Burka

If at work I were to disrespect women because of what they were wearing I would expect to be in trouble. Not a very likely situation considering that an insignificant percentage of people actually wear face coverings in the UK, and I suspect that most of those don't have a job. However, if I had to...

Re: Offending while drunk

I wonder if they count loads of wrecked people spending a night in the cells on Friday and Saturday nights maybe - that might boost the figures.

I'll see if I can grab the graphic. Might not be true even so though I suppose.

Offending while drunk

On The Wright Stuff this morning there was a graphic which said that 70% of people in prison were drunk when they committed the offence which put them there.

I find it difficult to believe TBH but if it's true it's a serious indictment of the effects of alcohol.

Re: "The Bridge".

Call me a philistine but much poetry comes across to me as pretentious TBH.

Song lyrics - particularly of 'pop' songs (popular music from the last 5 decades) are often nonsensical.

Re: Boris Johnson on the Burka

Boris Johnson, FFS* has weighed in on the thorny issue of lecturing women on what they wear. Suggesting that women wearing the burka look like letter boxes or bank robbers was of course simply harmless banter. He will have had no more intention of fuelling the existing anti Muslim sentiment amongst...

Re: Millennium Bug

I worked as a software engineer/analyst at the time and the our software (which was used by hundreds of medium manufacturing companies) would not have worked if we hadn't reviewed it. It took us a few man-weeks to do it - mostly tweaking a couple of date processing functions that were called from th...

Re: Police Protection

Jolly exciting.

They do seem to overkill some situations like yours and do nothing in others.

I don't know if it's true but I hear that if you are burgled - don't expect to see a copper - you'll just get an incident number for the insurance.

Re: Here is Practical Explanation about Next Life, Purpose of Human Life, philosophical/religious facts, theories etc.

I often find when conversing with or listening to people of a 'religious' nature that I can't understand what on earth they're going on about. I was listening to an ex C of E archbishop the other day and I lost track as soon as he started with 'you must realise there's a spiritual aspect to life'. :...
