Does anyone on this forum think he is anti-Semitic?
I know, for a fact - on very good authority - that he is not.

The idea couldn't be further from the truth. It's just dirty politics in action...
Hmmmmm... seems as though the Labour party is as fractured as the Conservative party.

Re: Brexit consequences

This guy should know what he's talking about... https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/may/24/uk-stop-blather-face-reality-brexit-trade-ivan-rogers Rogers said he despaired of “people professing themselves free traders who have only a hazy understanding about multilateral, regional and bilateral ...

Re: "Black salve" as a cancer cure.

Those pictures of the 'side effects' of the salve treatment should be widely publicised - might help dissuade some.

What happens if you go the other way from yanny to Laurel?

Re: Laurel or Yanny?

Interesting.

I guess all three of us are the other side of 50 (being a little generous I suspect - certainly in my case).

I wonder if someone younger would get a different result.

I'll see if I can find someone.

Fascinating!

If I start in the middle (which is clearly laurel) and go towards yanny it changes two marks before reaching the yanny end. If I start at yanny and move towards the centre it changes to laurel four marks from the yanny end.
That's almost exactly the same as me.

Re: Laurel or Yanny?

New York Times has a little tool you can play with... https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/05/16/upshot/audio-clip-yanny-laurel-debate.html?mc=adintl&mcid=facebook&mccr=mc12&ad-keywords=IntlAudDev&subid1=TAFI&dclid=CNWj1cXnltsCFcOeGwodY5IM8Q It has a slider which slides between laurel and ...

Re: Brexit consequences

Damn that's annoying - agreeing with him. The only nit I can pick is that he is talking about leaving "Europe" which we're not. I also agreed with Piers Morgan this morning which is even worse. He said that we appeared to want to go from being "in with a lot of opt-outs" to "out with a lot of opt-in...

Re: Royal wedding 2018

I didn't know anyone bought newspapers any more - I haven't for years but strangely I do rather miss them. I agree about their usability compared to TV (or radio come to that) you can just look at the headlines and read the bits you want to to whatever level of detail you want. I do that online now....

Re: Royal wedding 2018

The Rugby premiership playoff semi-finals are on from 12:30 so I shall be watching those while OH watches the nuptials and the FA cup final. Meanwhile, The Royal Family is worth £1.8 billion to the UK economy. http://www.cityam.com/276041/royal-family-worth-gbp17bn-uk-economy-every-year-says Britain...

Re: Laurel or Yanny?

Just spoke to my BH and she definitely heard yanny with me the other day and again today on daytime telly - Loose Women or something.

I've just played it to her from the above link and she now hears laurel.

Weird.

The British Retail Consortium expects a £500m boom so that will more than offset the £30m the taxpayer is paying for security. :thumb: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2017/11/28/will-prince-harry-meghan-markles-wedding-provide-boost-uk-economy/ In 2011, the BRC estimated the spending influx as ...

Re: Laurel or Yanny?

Very odd.

Yesterday I heard this on the TV - TVs have notoriously poor sound quality and I could only hear yanny.

Now - listening on my headphones it's laurel for certain.

Re: Brexit consequences

The Brexiters sniping from the sidelines can't lose, really, can they? If Brexit is a success, they'll say "We told you so!" If it's a terrible mess, they'll say to the poor saps who have to make something work "We told you not to do it that way!" And no doubt they will in due course write memoirs ...
