Except that now we have a say in the EU's policy and lawmaking, once we're out we won't.

Re: Laurel or Yanny?

Fascinating!

If I start in the middle (which is clearly laurel) and go towards yanny it changes two marks before reaching the yanny end. If I start at yanny and move towards the centre it changes to laurel four marks from the yanny end.

Bad lip reading

There's a huge number of these videos, in which fake speech has been dubbed to match the lip movements. I particularly like the Trump inauguration clip (link below), and especially the swearing-in ceremony - the dubbing seems astonishingly accurate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gneBUA39mnI

Re: Royal wedding 2018

I read more newspapers now than ever. What I like about them isn't the news (which the BBC News website provides) so much as what's going on behind the news, and in particular the contrasting arguments of the various columnists concerning the issues of the day. I'm happy to read views I disagree wit...

Re: Royal wedding 2018

There's one thing which can be said for the wedding - it has greatly diminished the usual TV hyper coverage of the FA Cup Final. I'm not sure that's sufficient compensation, though. I expect I'll be doing what I usually do - amble down to the village to buy a newspaper (thereby getting my Saturday r...

I listened to it via the built-in speakers in my iMac. Seemed very clear!

Laurel or Yanny?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-44151302/yanny-or-laurel-the-sound-dividing-the-internet Do you hear laurel or yanny? I hear laurel, no question. I find it hard to imagine how anyone could hear "yanny". Apparently it's down to the way we interpret high and low frequencies (explained at the end o...

Of course 'all goes right' and 'all goes wrong' are undefined so we can all choose what we think has happened and simply go on shouting at each other.
I think that's a pretty safe bet...

Re: Brexit consequences

The Brexiters sniping from the sidelines can't lose, really, can they? If Brexit is a success, they'll say "We told you so!" If it's a terrible mess, they'll say to the poor saps who have to make something work "We told you not to do it that way!" And no doubt they will in due course write memoirs f...

Re: "In a rational country....

Reminds me of the reaction to Canada's cabinet. What a radical idea - choosing ministers who actually know something about their jobs! It would never be allowed here, it would pose too much of a risk to the supremacy of the Civil Service. :devil If Boris were a Clown then would would his clown name...

I bet Corbyn is very happy he's not PM right now. I'm very happy that I'm not PM now.... As the old joke goes, if you want to get to there , you really shouldn't start from here . Or to put it another way, you may be really keen to drain the swamp, but might not have much time for that if the boat ...
