Re: Alexa

I have Alexa on my phone. The other day n the car I asked Alexa a question. My son asked why I'd used Alexa rather than Siri. I replied "Because Alexa doesn't misunderstand me like Siri does" at which point she interjected "I'm sorry I don't understand that"

Re: Alexa

At a recent raspberry jam event my kids were taking part in a session teaching them how to train an AI to turn either a light or a fan on or off. They observed that really the AI should be more cooperative if good manners were observed however the chap running the session (who's day job was working ...

Re: May Claims Asylum In Ecuadorian Embassy In London.

As is often the case, my first exposure to this piece of current events fun and games was via satirical coverage. I now see the the Ecuadorians have indeed had a change of leadership and a change of heart and dear Julian has outstayed his welcome. Is it time to discuss the case again. Is he an arseh...

Re: Brexit Plan B?

In a wild flight of fancy I considered what would happen if we applied some sort of voter political literacy test to a second referendum. Not that I'm suggesting that one side or the other were particularly more misinformed but it might be worth it to see the campaigns striving to correct any misgui...

Re: Brexit consequences

HOT NEWS! "Uri Geller sends Theresa May BIZARRE Brexit warning." On Britain leaving the EU, Mr Geller wrote: “I feel psychically and very strongly that most British people do not want Brexit. “I love you very much but I will not allow you to lead Britain into Brexit. “As much as I admire you, I wil...

Re: Useless gold coins

As legal tender it has a face value of 25p https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovereign_(British_coin) Thought I'd check. 2 Grams of 22K Gold is currently worth £22.43. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarter_sovereign. Numismatists may ascribe a greater value https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-Queen-Elizabet...

Re: Brexit consequences

A quite clever person looking at what May is doing might infer this motive. On the other hand, doing so could be described as Apophenia. Not giving up and plugging away a futile causes is kind of her schtick. I wouldn't reach for a more complex explanation than that.

Re: Brexit consequences

We have clearly and decisively dismissed every possible way forward. A such we're now pressed into looking for a way backwards and asking for an extension. It seems that taking back control looks like demanding that the EU tell us exactly what sort of extension we will be allowed to have and to what...

Re: Brexit consequences

So I would fully expect the final two options to be "declare war", and "bring back Only Fools and Horses"

Re: "Why We Think Cats Are Psychopaths."

Yes I think it's more their actions than their expressions. The classic trope canine loyalty is of a faithful hound who on the death of his master pines away at their grave side. In the classic cat lady equivalent she's discovered three days later and the cat's have eaten her face.

Re: Brexit consequences

Yes it's a game of chicken. Theresa is at the wheel of a magnificent Rolls Royce, sheer rock to the left, a cliff edge to the right. Voices from the back scream at her. Some ask her to simply stop, other insist the the the Rolls Royce is the best car in the world and the EU are bound to swerve. Othe...
