Re: Racism and Meghan

Yes - that's what I thought. Most of the early commentary was how refeshing she was. I for one don't see her as anything but a relatively (physically) attractive young woman - her 'blackness', such as it is, is of little relevance. The problem is that this commentator - Dr. Shola - won't actually sa...

Racism and Meghan

Is racism at the heart of criticism of the Countess of Sussex? This has been a big topic over the last few days. This Lady - Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu has been making waves - here with Phil Schofield on This Morning and she was on the same tack with Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain. Watch from abo...

Re: Gwyneth Paltrow's Candle

Gwyneth Paltrow's Candle

I'm thinking of complaining to the ASA about her claim that a candle she is selling smells like her vagina. I think this should be investigated.

Re: Iran's 'red flag of war' hints impending revenge.

Am I being overly cynical or does anyone else think that Trump's sudden belligerence might have something to do with his domestic political problems? After all, it would be unpatriotic, would it not, to pursue the impeachment of a president who is in the middle of handling a major international cri...

Re: George Bernard Shaw on "Patriotism".

I find Patriotism and Nationalism a bit confusing. I see Patriotism as being rather benign and positive - little more than supporting a sports team which, let's face it, is scarcely more understandable. Nationalism I see as more sinister. I think others think differently - patriotism in some places ...

Re: UK Election 12 Dec 2019

The result might not be what we wanted but at least we got there the right way this time. Steven Novella: Skepticism values method over any particular conclusion Which suggests that skepticism and political savvy require fundamentally incompatible mindsets. I've noticed previously that skeptics are...

UK Election 12 Dec 2019

Just to underline the confused picture: Went out last night  - three couples, all in our 60s, all ardent remainers Couple 1 (currently have a Tory MP - Labour 2nd) One will vote Labour (tactical vote) one undecided but will probably vote LibDem (that's what they believe to be right) Couple 2 (curren...

We've been watching that too. Very light and entertaining - doesn't tax the grey matter too much - beautiful locations and people - just right for winter afternoons.

Death in Paradise meets Dempsey and Makepeace.
