Re: Brexit consequences

According to Matt Hancock, Christmas won't be normal this year.

A glimmer of light in the gloom.

Re: How does a £50 cup of coffee taste?

Reminded me of poo coffee - kopi luwak or civet coffee - the beans are pooed out by civets. A cup can sell for 80 dollars.

(Just remembered - we talked about it before)

Re: Brexit consequences

Yes - Miliband was very impressive.

It'll make no difference. They have a huge majority and neither moral nor ethical conscience.

Re: "The Sound Of Silence."

This amused me greatly. Just watch the face of the voice coach as he song progresses.

Re: New COVID rules

It seems I'm right. So the pub lunch we had yesterday with two other couples and the same tomorrow (life is one hectic social whirl  ) are illegal but if we do the same on Monday we'll be OK. The pub gathering on Saturday week of an unknown (but > 6) number of people for a birthday will be ill...

New COVID rules

Now - 6 people can meet up in a pub - but from no more than 2 households. From Monday - ANY 6 people can meet up in a pub - 'The Rule of Six' (no mention of households that I can see). So today if 3 couples from separate households were to meet up in a pub for lunch they would be breaking the rules,...

Re: Brexit consequences

Some extracts from Chris Grey's latest blog post: https://chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2020/09/back-to-school.html a different way of stating the Brexiters’ negotiating conundrum is this: whatever benefits the EU has economically, they all come at the price of sovereignty – we want sovereignty ...

Tony Abbott

Matt Hancock confirms Tony Abbott is a homophobic misogynist - but that's OK. :thumb:

Can't pay? We'll take it away.

Highly entertaining (to me anyway) Ch 5 series about high court enforcement officers collecting debts. They often use the lines - 'Are these goods yours? If you can't prove they're not we're going to seize them'. Isn't it impossible to prove that? I suppose you could have proof that they belong to s...

Re: Weird weather

We had same as the OP last night. It appeared to be just about overhead, and continuous for about 1/2 hour. No rain and very distant sounding constant rumble (although as I said - the action appeared to be right overhead). The only difference was that many, maybe 1/3, of the flashes were visible for...

Re: Weird weather

Couple of random observations re. weather; I'm sure I can remember many more thunderstorms happening when I was a kid - say 50-55 years ago. That might be a false memory. It's astonishing how you acclimatise. In Spain I was able to do heavy duty roofing (roofs there are made of concrete - all moved ...
