Offending while drunk

On The Wright Stuff this morning there was a graphic which said that 70% of people in prison were drunk when they committed the offence which put them there.

I find it difficult to believe TBH but if it's true it's a serious indictment of the effects of alcohol.

Re: Boris Johnson on the Burka

If at work I were to disrespect women because of what they were wearing I would expect to be in trouble.

Re: "The Bridge".

Call me a philistine but much poetry comes across to me as pretentious TBH.

Song lyrics - particularly of 'pop' songs (popular music from the last 5 decades) are often nonsensical.

Re: Boris Johnson on the Burka

Boris Johnson, FFS* has weighed in on the thorny issue of lecturing women on what they wear. Suggesting that women wearing the burka look like letter boxes or bank robbers was of course simply harmless banter. He will have had no more intention of fuelling the existing anti Muslim sentiment amongst...

Re: Millennium Bug

I worked as a software engineer/analyst at the time and the our software (which was used by hundreds of medium manufacturing companies) would not have worked if we hadn't reviewed it. It took us a few man-weeks to do it - mostly tweaking a couple of date processing functions that were called from th...

Re: Police Protection

Jolly exciting.

They do seem to overkill some situations like yours and do nothing in others.

I don't know if it's true but I hear that if you are burgled - don't expect to see a copper - you'll just get an incident number for the insurance.

Re: Here is Practical Explanation about Next Life, Purpose of Human Life, philosophical/religious facts, theories etc.

I often find when conversing with or listening to people of a 'religious' nature that I can't understand what on earth they're going on about. I was listening to an ex C of E archbishop the other day and I lost track as soon as he started with 'you must realise there's a spiritual aspect to life'. :...

Re: Police Protection

As far as police protection is concurred - people get threatened over the internet all of the time, and it doesn't usually lead to that. An alternative might have been a stern warning that anyone who takes the law into their own hands would end up in serious trouble. Police time is a rare and preci...

Re: Late night music.

Going back through this thread I note that Elgar's Nimrod features a couple of times - so here's another rendition.

I'm amazed I haven't posted this already TBH - apologies if I have but I can't find it anywhere.

Re: Police Protection

Gut says one thing, head says something different. Gut says tie the thugs up, give the woman's relatives baseball bats and five uninterrupted minutes with them. Head says vigilantism is definitely not what we need, the rule of law is getting paper-thin as it is. Precisely. People are actually sayin...

One problem with a second referendum would occur if the result was a unconvincing win for remain - which is quite likely.
