"The scientific method in action."

Post by bindeweede » Mon Nov 02, 2015 4:56 pm

Not new, but still significant, I'd say.
In one of the best examples of science working, a researcher who provided key evidence of (non-celiac disease) gluten sensitivity recently published follow-up papers that show the opposite.

Yes - important and significant.

It'll have the same effect as the trials that show that electrosensitivity is merely imagined.

None whatever.
Don't blame me - I voted remain :con

Really, really? Surely this is just systematically seeing if gluten has the described effect in dozens of cases with all possible other factors accounted for. I don't see how that could counter the personal evidence of my wife's friend who discovered that the upwards force her arm could generate was weaker after a bag of flour was brought near. Beat that science!

On a more serious note I wonder how many of those 37 test subjects returned to their gluten free diet after being told that it had no measurable effect.

I'm sure I've seen this story before. Many months ago, possibly last year.

It is clear now that, just like the electrosensitivity nutters that chaggle mentioned, it is all in the mind.

This will not stop the believers from suffering, but it will help to make sure that they are not taken seriously by the medical profession and others.
