Toast - landscape or portrait?

Post by chaggle » Mon Oct 26, 2015 1:28 pm

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/8 ... ldren.html

From an article by (Baroness) Susan Greenfield
I have heard a sad story about a little girl who was in the kitchen using a new toaster, and asked her father: “Do I put the slice of bread in portrait or landscape?”
Can anyone think why this is sad? I think it's clever, perceptive and rather cute.

Greenfield is generating a lot of interest among prominent skeptics...

But I have one, humble question: why, in over five years of appearing in the media raising these grave worries, has Professor Greenfield of Oxford University never simply published the claims in an academic paper?

Following her successful move from peer-reviewed journals to the Mail, the Professor will take the next logical step of publishing her future research through the medium of romantic fiction.

(The following is actually, seriously, true.)

She is currently working on her first novel, based on her interest in technology's impact on man and the idea that young adults are turning into zombie like 'cyber people' before our very eyes.
Don't blame me - I voted remain :con

I agree. And the comments on the Telegraph article are mostly pretty perceptive too.

So do I. Why on earth she thinks this is sad is beyond me. What a strange woman.

Maybe she yearns for the old music hall routine of the MC using really long and obscure words, to the ironic cheers of the plebeian audience.

She simply cannot come to grips with anyone's experience of toast being limited by photographic software. :thumb:

She is, of course, repeating an internet meme; which says loads about the baroness's research...

Same concept where some folk nowadays during a normal conversation will say the word 'LOL' - instead of actually laughing. Does happen. I've seen/heard people do it.

You'll never hear me say or type the word ''L*l''. Yuck, just can't do it.
