Bob Nygaard, America's psychic-crime fighter.

Post by bindeweede » Mon Nov 09, 2015 7:15 pm

A retired New York cop, he stumbled upon his new calling during an encounter with two women in a Florida bar. After bringing down a high-profile Miami psychic, he wants the US justice system to take fortune-teller fraud more seriously.

Bob would have celebrated this first victory, but the day after Marks’s arrest he woke up with his left eye so severely swollen that he couldn’t see. The swelling lasted a couple of days, and his friends joked that he had probably been cursed. Bob is about as unflappable a guy as you can find, dismissive of the sort of danger you can’t shoot with a gun; but for a couple of days he was, he admits, rattled.

Now if only he could produce the evidence ..... but of course that now lies at the bottom of that "mystical Pennsylvania lake".

I misread "psychic-crime fighter" as "psychic crime-fighter" and expected something quite different.

Probably a deliberate ploy. The thick-heads who would look for a "psychic crime-fighter" would easily mistake a "psychic-crime fighter" for one. Most of them can't even spell "fighter" let alone parse hyphens.

He's been at it again, with the article's headline very easy to predict.
Psychic Zoe has not had a very good week. On 9 May the fortune-teller, whose real name is Ann Thompson, was arrested by the New York Police Department on suspicion of defrauding clients out of over $800,000. You’d think she might have had a premonition the police would be knocking at her door but, alas, the future isn’t always crystal clear.

The police were notified of Thompson after two of her victims contacted private investigator Bob Nygaard, who specializes in psychic scams (you can read about his work in a feature we published in 2016).
"Despite his track record, Nygaard still finds it difficult to get law enforcement to take clairvoyant chicanery seriously. While he says he “received excellent cooperation from a NYPD detective, in regard to this particular case”, all too often the police tend to treat psychic fraud like a joke. "

Glad I wasn't the only one.
