Attenborough on economics

We have a finite environment – the planet. Anyone who thinks that you can have infinite growth in a finite environment is either a madman or an economist.

I've heard that before but without that particular attribution. Skeptical spider sense is tingling.

I can confirm that Attenborough is quoted as saying this at the Royal Geographical Society in 2013
https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... nvironment

However the "Madman or Economist" zinger does date back a little further.

Anyone who believes exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist.

Whoever said it first, it still makes a good point.
