BBC funding

Post by Tony.Williams »

I see that Gary Lineker, the highest-paid presenter in the BBC, has suggested that paying the licence fee should be voluntary.

He would presumably be happy for the BBC to regard their payment of his salary as voluntary, too.

Technically it is voluntary. I don't have to watch TV.
For that matter the BBC don't have to employ Lineker either

I'm guessing there may be a bit more to what he said than that.

I'll do a bit more finding out.
Don't blame me - I voted remain :con

I did read an article which suggested his idea is that if you make it voluntary then some people won't pay but that's OK because they can just raise the price for the people who do choose to pay. Which means that either I'm missing something, or he's missing a lot. Like why TV detector vans exist.
