Ashya King
Re: Ashya King
Yes, there is a lot of talk that the whole PBT thing is a BigRadioTM driven gravy train.
I am having a conversation about this with someone who is convinced that PBT treatment is so inappropriate for the condition Ashya had that he didn't have it - he had conventional radio - and the whole trip to Prague was eyewash.
Any idea how I could go about verifying/disproving that?
I would actually like it to be true but can't believe it is.

Yes, just another newspaper article, but the abuse some of the professionals have experienced is terrible.
"Ashya King: The summer of hate experienced by the hospital that treated him shames us all."

Amusing and relevant to this story...

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – A large tertiary care center in Sydney, Australia is pulling out all the stops to try and cut their expenses. As of next month, all doctors and nurses currently on staff will be replaced by parents who have done research on the Internet.
“I can’t tell you how happy and relieved I am when a patient tells me they have done some research on the internet” said head of neurology, Dr. Eric Sheppard. “It’s only topped by a patient telling me they have a family member who is a nurse.”
The hospital is excited about how much money this move should save them, not to mention the overwhelming support from parents everywhere.
“This is a great move in my opinion” said anti-vaccer Meryl Dorey. “Most parents know more than doctors anyways, so this is a huge step in the right direction.”
The current staff are in the process of being moved to other less innovative health centers.

A relevant article from the BBC.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-35440016A cancer treatment at the centre of an NHS controversy in 2014 causes fewer side effects in children than conventional radiotherapy, according to new research.
Re: Ashya King
I've read what I can of that study (short of paying) and I can't see anywhere were it says it causes fewer side effects, only that...bindeweede wrote:A relevant article from the BBC.

Proton radiotherapy resulted in acceptable toxicity and had similar survival outcomes to those noted with conventional radiotherapy, suggesting that the use of the treatment may be an alternative to photon-based treatments.

This story has been quiet now for a couple of years but is resurfacing today on Loose Women.
It is being billed as 'the parents of Ashya King speaking about how the NHS is still failing their son'.
It's obviously not a programme I usually watch
but I'll make an exception for this item.

There's an article in today's Mirror reporting that doctors say the boy's brain cancer is unlikely to return. The only mention of the "Loose Women" programme...
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/d ... n-12118686Describing her son's recovery, Naghemeh said on daytime TV show Loose Women: "It’s amazing. It’s the sort of progress we as parents wanted him to make. We are thrilled.
