The trouble is that where he stands is rubbish: the precipice of a hard Brexit that will lead Britain into a sad, less prosperous isolation, to the strains of Elgar. He personifies all that is wrong with conservatism in 2018. But until we stop indulging him, we’ll deserve everything we get.
