1969 Apollo 12.

Post by bindeweede » Thu Nov 05, 2015 6:28 pm

On this day in 1969 Apollo 12 astronauts Pete Conrad and Alan Bean stepped out of their lunar module to become the third and fourth humans to walk on the Moon. Conrad took this photo of Bean, who's holding a flask of lunar soil. Besides collecting soil samples, the two astronauts conducted experiments on the solar wind and retrieved pieces of the Surveyor 3 lander. They also deployed a suite of experiments that telemetered data back to Earth, including a seismometer for monitoring moonquakes.
