I'm getting somewhat swamped by screen drama at the moment, what with Endeavour, Shetland, Collateral, Rebecka Martinsson, and of course that grim example of Caribbean Noir - Death in Paradise...
Not to mention a stack of DVDs that I seem to accumulate faster than I can watch (same problem with books). I managed to watch one the other night and found myself somewhat baffled. 'Atomic Blonde' wasn't at all what I had vaguely expected, it was a Cold War action spy thriller with Charlize Theron in the title role, and is the most violent film I've seen in a very long time. Frequent lethal unarmed combat, the defeated being routinely finished off, blood spraying the camera lens and - most shocking of all - a brief flash of a Theron nipple. I nearly passed out at that point. How controversial can they get?
