That one possible interpretation. From the evidence you've provided for it I'd have to say that any overlap between your assumptions and the truth would be entirely coincidental.

Hey, I had an Allegro once upon a time!

As I recall, it was comfortable, with a smoother ride than modern equivalents, and it didn't break down.

Good joke, but it would have been even better if they had picked the Vanden Plas version, which tried to appeal to older, more pretentious drivers by adding an imposing radiator grille and leather seats. I recall a contemporary joke about that car - it was the only one available with a bifocal windscreen!
