A nice optical illusion.

Post by polomint38 » Sun Nov 01, 2015 5:02 pm

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, the dots will remain only one color, pink.
However if you stare at the black '+' in the centre, the moving dot turns to green. Now concentrate on the black '+' in the centre of the picture. After a short period all the pink dots will slowly disappear and you will see only a single green dot rotating.

Nice one indeed! The after-image effect, presumably

Hmmm ... the pinks never disappear for me. They remain there, complete and constant, but each one gets a little green cap around the outer side of the circle, so I'm seeing a non-moving circle of pink with green hats (semi-circles) - and then a single green dot goes around that pink/green circle at speed.

Interesting Ketchup. For me, it is quite hard to concentrate on the black cross for more than ten seconds or so. The pink dots almost disappear, but not quite, then I re-focus or something, and it's back to the beginning.

Thanks polo. Intriguing.

Even though not all the pink dots disappear, about two thirds do.

Another good example of how the brain can be fooled into seeing, or not seeing what is there.

Works for me. My brain can obviously be fooled very easily.

I see the running green dot with pink dots chasing it around. Good effect!

Count the circles...

Also, spot where they overlap...

I see 4 circles, but don't see any overlapping?

I get the feeling that the illusion that there are many interlocking circles is lost on some...

I was only kidding, chaggle. Yes, it does look at first glance as though there are a number of overlapping circles, or even just one long line circling around but - being forewarned that it is after all an optical illusion, it's then quite easy to count how many circles there are and to see that they are all independent of each other.
