Countdown

Post by chaggle » Mon Oct 23, 2017 9:06 am

I know I'm a sad old man but I do like to play Countdown every day - helps keep my grey cells active.

Question - should I be allowed GLAMPED?

Online dictionaries have GLAMPING as a noun but no mention of it as a verb.

But I think "We GLAMPED in Cornwall last summer" is perfectly acceptable.

Anyone got an up-to-date OED?

"Glamp" isn't in the latest Chambers Dictionary, which is recommended to crossword enthusiasts. And here, as you say, it's just given as a noun. https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/glamping

But these days, it seems quite common to turn nouns into verbs - "I gifted...", so why not? :thumb

Yes - 'Any noun can be verbed'. ;)

I know that GLAMPING is in the OED and that is the dictionary Susie uses.

This (not being sure if your word/number solution is acceptable) happens quite regularly and it's a bit frustrating.

Anyway I beat both the contestants today - got a 9 letter CRANKIEST in the first round. :yay

They recently had Gobshite. There was a Y left over, could you say somebody was quite gobshitey. :lol

Love it when that happens. I noticed Adrian Chiles passed that one to Susie to say.

Normally she explains unusual words but she ducked FAPPED the other day. :lol

These were the letters in one round yesterday...

F D H U E K C O J

That had Rachel smirking.

Luckily Choked and Hocked were both there as well.

Arrggghhh!! :gh

Susie disallowed formic!!

I'm staggered. :ey

She said it was only usable with acid - which a) shouldn't make any difference and b) isn't true anyway. :fp

It means 'pertaining to ants' or 'ant like'. :con
