Someone has been killed by the jet blast...
http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/new ... ebook-post
The tourist – reported to be a 57-year-old New Zealander – had been standing by the fence at the end of the runway, watching the plane take off when she was knocked down, sustaining head injuries. She was taken to hospital, where she died.
I'm amazed it doesn't happened more often (this is not the fatal incident)...

Why no blast deflectors I wonder?

I remember seeing that video some time ago - but only the first part of it, up to the girl being blown backwards against the low concrete wall. I wondered at the time how she managed to survive that.
I gather there are emphatic warning notices posted all around that area, so the quote from Einstein I recently posted seems apt:
"The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits."
