a disconcerting event

Post by Tony.Williams » Thu Dec 28, 2017 12:36 pm

This morning I was lying in bed thinking of getting up (I can spend a long time thinking about that) when there was a sudden, very loud, roaring noise which went on for nearly half a minute. It was coming from above, but wasn't an aircraft. It was frankly alarming, because I couldn't imagine what it was. Looking out of the window, it became clear - we had been hit by a sudden, intense, hailstorm, and the sound was their impact with the roof. The hailstones were about the size of peas and were very hard solid ice. Too small to do any damage, but would probably have stung somewhat.

I can't recall seeing anything quite like this for a very long time - hail is usually only semi-hard.

So you were disconcerted by the fact that it was hard when you woke up, rather than only semi-hard?
