I have doubts about my mental abilities - does that make me intelligent?
By the way I don't think George Carlin is strictly correct about half the people being of below average intelligence.
Don't blame me - I voted remain

I wonder how much of the research quoted involved women? I recall reading that women are far less likely to overrate their abilities than men.
In fact, I understand there is a general problem with all sorts of research - medical as well as psychological - being heavily biased towards men (and typically of white European origin) as subjects.
There is also a problem with medical research concerning children; there is an assumption that they will react to medicines in the same way as adults, but that might not always be the case. This is not easily overcome, as it is unethical to carry out medical trials on those not old enough to give their informed consent.
